This is a special episode in many ways:

  1. Not just because it’s the very first one
  2. But also because I recorded this first episode on my phone

That’s right! You’ll hear me talk into my phone if you listen to this on Spotify, Apple Podcast, or Google Podcasts.

A couple of months ago, I interviewed Nick Nalbach, who is running the Nine Five Freedom Podcast, and he taught me how to launch a podcast with just a phone and very little software.

I told Nick that if that’s true, then anyone can have a podcast. So, if you’re listening to this now, then Nick was right.

I followed Nick’s exact steps and recorded the entire process in a YouTube video so that you could see what I had to go through to make this happen.

In this very first episode, let’s talk about why the name CreateGrowProfit and how this methodology might apply to your situation and your current online business.

Why Do Most Solopreneurs Fail?

In my case, I started my online marketing journey as a blogger and affiliate marketer. But that was also at a time when it started to become increasingly more difficult to rank for keywords on Google.

As a consequence, I had to learn additional skills like:

  1. Copywriting
  2. Building funnels
  3. Email marketing
  4. Advertising

And it was in this process of learning that is when I discovered my passion for online businesses.

As I dove deeper and deeper into the online business world, I realized that most people who want to start making money online never actually make any money.

And I wanted to understand why and what the biggest blocks were.

After looking at my own mistakes and speaking to many, many other people in the online marketing space, I started to see a pattern. And the pattern was inconsistent.

However, I think that inconsistency was just a symptom. The root cause of inconsistent solopreneurs, in my opinion, is chasing the wrong business goals.

Let’s take blogging as an example.

If you were to start a blog today and your number one goal was to rank on the first page of Google for various keywords, then you’ve picked a bad goal.

In my opinion, you’ll be waiting a long time to see results, and it feels like your goal can never be achieved.

Frustration sets in, you’ll feel discouraged and then switch to the next thing, thus becoming inconsistent. Maybe then that person might think that they have to create video content because the video is taking over the internet right now.

So then they go to YouTube and then they would make the same mistake where the number one objective is ranking highly for YouTube searches.

Again, results might come very slowly, and again the person will become discouraged.

Does that mean that blogging is dead or that it’s too late to start a new YouTube channel? Of course not.

There are new bloggers appearing on the scene every year and new YouTube channels appearing every month and they are absolutely crushing it. But after having studied many of these success stories myself, I have found that most of these examples have one thing in common whether deliberately or not.

They have all worked towards a very similar goal that is not about Google rankings or YouTube searches.

If you’re starting from scratch or you’re a new solopreneur and you want to make sales and attract clients, then your very first goal should be to build an audience.

But I find that when it comes to building audiences online there is a huge misunderstanding.

It is something that I have certainly noticed in myself and I believe I’m also seeing this in other people who come into the business world or want to set out as an entrepreneur.

What I’m seeing is that they are fresh out of an employee environment.

Meaning, that they have been working as an employee and now they want to start a business. A lot of the employee mindset carries into the business world and that’s why it’s not working for them and that is why I used to struggle as well.

Let me explain what I mean and what it has to do with the name CrateGrowProfit.

What Is The History of CreateGrowProfit?

In most cases, when we get hired as an employee, someone in that company has already figured out what the company needs to sell and at which profit margins they have to sell it to be profitable.

That’s usually the work the founders have done and they’ve built a working business model before they even have the budget to hire you as an employee and I think this is a very important observation to make.

As employees, we enter a company at a point in time when most things have already been figured out and we’re just hired to execute. Of course, as employees, we get a behind-the-scenes look inside the company where we work and at that point when we enter.

It looks like all that matters is having the best product and outstanding service and delivery and just everything is very product and service-focused.

So then when we set out on our own and we want to start a business or become an entrepreneur, and make money online, we take that product and service-focused mindset with us.

That’s exactly why most people start with the product first or with their service or offer first before they ever even start building an audience or marketing themselves.

That’s why we hear these stories so often where struggling solopreneurs say they have to write their book first or they have to create their online course first or put together their coaching program first before they can go out into the marketplace.

This idea that we need to have a product or service before we can enter the marketplace, is what we’ve learned as employees.

But employment is not entrepreneurship and as entrepreneurs, we must do it the other way around by building an audience first and then figuring out what we want to sell to that audience later.

We can make money when we have an audience that:

  • Listens to us
  • Pays attention to us
  • Knows us
  • Likes us
  • Trusts u

But if we have a product, no matter how great it is, without an audience, then nobody is going to buy it and we’re not making any money.

The other thing is that as employees we usually become very good at what we do and that inspires us or gives us the courage to set out on our own and offer that service or create these products ourselves.

Again, this is a very product and service-focused mindset when in reality we should be focusing on building an audience and marketing ourselves more than anything else.

What that means is that we just want to set the goal for ourselves to build an audience and grow the audience.

And then once we have that audience, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What it is that we can do for them?
  2. What it is that they want to buy?
  3. What it is that they want to invest in?
  4. What are the premium solutions that they want?

Then offering that to them to make money.

This brings us back to the name CreateGrowProfit.

Based on this observation, I wanted to have a name for my business that really describes this perspective and methodology for making money online.

Meaning first we have to:

  1. Start creating
  2. We have to be creative
  3. We have to put things out into the world

So that we can even start to attract an audience so that people are even willing to pay attention to us and listen to us.

To put it simply:

  1. We have to create content
  2. We have to create interactions
  3. We have to create conversations online and in the digital space.

And that’s the first step. And keep in mind when I say creating, I’m not talking about creating products or making offers or services. I mean just showing up in the marketplace, helping, serving, making connections and just making a name for ourselves.

Whether that’s sharing stories, sharing our experiences, insights, teaching, teaching what we’re learning, all of these things.

It can be on social media or other content platforms. Then once an audience starts to build around our content, around what we’re creating, then we want to grow and nurture that audience. This is step number two. And once we have grown and nurtured our audience. That’s when we can profit from all our hard work. And this is step number three.

When you have an audience that:

  • Listens to you
  • Pays attention to you
  • Likes you
  • Knows you
  • Trusts you

At that point, all you have to do is ask your audience what problems they need a solution for and offer that solution to them.

So as you can see, that is very different from a product and service-focused approach, where you’re obsessed with questions such as:

  1. What am I going to build?
  2. What am I going to put out?
  3. What am I going to sell?

And that is exactly why the word profit comes at the end of the name CreateGrowProfit.

First, we create, then we grow, and then we profit from all our hard work.

And we profit from the relationships that we have created with our audience.

There you have it. That’s what inspired me to choose the name CreateGrowProfit and also embrace this name as a methodology for myself and in my coaching, educational material, and content.

Thank you so much for listening today. Thank you for tuning in for the very first episode of the CreateGrowPorfit Podcast.

Big thanks to Nick Nalbach, who helped me create my very first podcast episode.

As I’ve mentioned, I interviewed him a couple of months ago on my YouTube channel CreateGrowProfit. He gave me the entire steps and blueprint to recording and uploading this in the most simple way with the least necessary steps involved.

If that’s something you would like to do as well, I highly recommend that you watch that interview with Nick.

He really gave away the entire blueprint for doing this. And if you want to see behind the scenes how I’ve recorded this particular episode today, those videos are on my YouTube channel as well.
