I’ve got a truly captivating story to share from my recent podcast conversation. I sat down with the incredible Ria Wang, founder of Zenquency Healing, whose journey from the brink of burnout to building a thriving coaching practice is nothing short of inspiring. Her experience offers powerful lessons on pivoting, rebuilding, and rediscovering joy after facing significant challenges.
The Pursuit of Happiness and the Power of Inner Peace
Ria’s journey began with a relentless pursuit of external achievement. Like many high-achievers, she found happiness in accomplishments: running three successful spa businesses, for instance. But as she shared, this kind of happiness often feels fleeting, a constant chase for the next big win.
This led us to a fascinating discussion about the difference between “happiness” and “joy.” Ria beautifully articulated that while happiness can be tied to external achievements, joy is an internal state, a deep appreciation for the little things, a profound sense of gratitude that isn’t dependent on outside circumstances. This shift in perspective, moving from a fear-driven need to prove her worth to an internal state of self-love and acceptance, became the cornerstone of her transformation.
The Breaking Point and a Leap of Faith
Ria’s story took a dramatic turn when the immense pressure she put on herself led to a complete breakdown, culminating in severe panic attacks. During one harrowing moment in an ambulance, she had an “aha!” moment that changed everything: “Ria, wake up. If you die now, is this how you want your life to end?”
That profound question ignited a burning desire for change. It led her to make a truly courageous decision: to sell everything—her successful businesses, her home—and embark on a two-and-a-half-year journey across 30 countries and hundreds of cities. This wasn’t just a physical journey; it was an “inner journey” to find herself, to heal, and to discover what true peace felt like. She immersed herself in meditation, spent time in monasteries, and engaged in deep introspective practices, even participating in a 21-day meditation retreat involving seven days each of laughing, crying, and silence to release deeply held emotions.
Finding Zenquency: A New Purpose
Through her travels and self-discovery, Ria found her inner peace, an experience she describes as “bliss.” This profound transformation fueled her desire to help others find their own “Zenquency,” a term she coined by combining “Zen” (inner peace) and “frequency” (the energy that permeates everything). Her belief is that when we align with our inner peace, we tap into a powerful energy that transforms our lives.
When the pandemic brought her travels to a halt, Ria channeled her experiences and newfound wisdom into becoming a certified life coach specializing in well-being and meditation. She realized that her own healing journey equipped her with unique insights and tools to guide others.
Coaching from the Heart: Ria’s Approach
Ria’s coaching philosophy is rooted in self-love and empowers her clients to transition from self-doubt to empowerment. She shared a simple yet powerful exercise: regularly touching your heart with your palm, breathing gently, and feeling your heartbeat and the warmth emanating from your chest. This simple act, she explained, awakens your heart’s energy center, fostering gratitude, appreciation, and self-love. It’s a reminder that true courage isn’t about being fearless, but about taking small, consistent steps forward, even when you’re scared.
For new coaches feeling stuck or overwhelmed, Ria offers invaluable advice:
- Believe in what you do: Your passion is your foundation.
- Continuously elevate your skills: Learning from experts and investing in your growth is crucial.
- Leverage partnerships: Collaborate with others who complement your strengths, like a marketing expert if you’re a coaching expert.
- Start small: Focus on serving one client well, building confidence, and then gradually expanding.
- Find your niche: Concentrate on what truly resonates with you and how you can uniquely serve others.
Today, Ria works with two main types of clients: high-achievers who struggle with anxiety and stress and want to find better ways to manage it, and professionals (like other life coaches, massage therapists, and spiritual practitioners) who want to integrate vibrational healing into their own practices.
If you’re a coach, creator, or entrepreneur facing burnout, seeking inner peace, or simply looking to level up your self-love, Ria’s story is a powerful reminder that transformation is always possible. Her journey from the depths of anxiety to a life of purposeful coaching is truly inspiring.
