Anyone can send emails, but successful solopreneurs are good at:

  1. Building valuable email lists
  2. Creating engaging messages
  3. And getting clients

In this blog, I’m going to discuss 5 powerful email marketing strategies and explain why these strategies are considered “high-impact.” I’ll also share examples for each strategy.

But before that, I know you are wondering if these strategies are tailored to specific goals, such as boosting open rates or enhancing conversions.

By using the 5 strategies, you can make your emails better in three important ways.

  1. You’ll have a higher open rate, which means more people will open your emails because the subject lines are interesting.
  2. There will be an increased click-through rate (CTR), showing people are clicking on things inside and are interested.
  3. You’ll experience a boost in conversions, signifying more successful actions, like people buying or signing up.

Strategy Number 1: Have A Lead Magnet

Now, picking a topic for your freebie may be tricky, especially if you’re a new coach.

The first step is to become familiar with your ideal client. You need to get clear about the kind of people you want on your list.

Oftentimes, people try to create lead magnets that make this HUGE promise.

But that’s not required.

To make a good lead magnet, solve a specific, tangible problem.

And especially for coaches, from my experience, the best kind of lead magnets are: signing up for a free live workshop or masterclass.

The easiest way to decide which lead magnet to try is to look at your coaching programs.

If your lead magnet makes the same promise as your coaching programs, your lead magnet will definitely attract the right people.

For example, if you’re a health coach for busy CEOs tackling stress, your freebie could be about “5 Things Every CEO Should Do Every Morning For A Stress-Free Day.”

Strategy Number 2: Optimize Your ‘Thank You Page’

A lot of opportunities are missed with boring “Thank You Pages”.

Start with a warm “Thanks for grabbing [lead magnet name].” Because it’s the little things that count.

Now, here’s something important you could do:

  1. Give them a little peek into what’s coming up next
  2. Share a bit about your next coaching idea.
  3. Keep them interested and excited for more.

Surprise them with something extra. It could be:

  1. An additional resource
  2. A quick tip
  3. Or a special offer

People like pleasant surprises. And Thank You Pages really work well for that.

One more thing – don’t leave them without guidance.

Always have one clear Call-To-Action on your Thank You Page. It might be:

  1. Taking your offer
  2. Joining your free workshop
  3. Booking a call with you
  4. Or ordering your book

Here is an example of a Thank You Page of a coach helping with stress.

The key to this thank-you page is the CTA to join their live workshop / live training.

Strategy Number 3: Send An Automated Welcome Sequence

Send out the first email of your welcome sequence immediately after they sign up. In this email, you should include the link to the lead magnet so they can easily access it.

And, you also tell them a bit about how you’ll be getting in touch now that they’re part of your email list.

Here’s proof of how effective these automated messages can be …

And here’s an example Welcome Email from Mailchimp

A welcome sequence should be sent daily, or at least five times per week.

I even have a template for a 30-day email sequence. Read my latest blog here where I explain each email in this 30-day automated sequence. You can download this email plan here.

Strategy Number 4: Use One-to-one Language (NOT One-to-many Language)

One-to-one language shows that you are ONLY talking to the person reading your mail.

They have your attention. And It’s more effective.

Because people don’t like receiving automated emails.

But they do like receiving “personal emails”.

Imagine you’re chatting with a friend, not addressing a crowd. Your emails should feel the same way. And I call this the “coffee test”.

And here is how the Coffee Test works:

When you read out your email loud, would you say the exact same words to your friend at a coffee shop?

If not, then re-write your email.

Write like you speak to a friend with whom you’re having coffee with.

Here is an example:

Not So Personal Email

“Hey, everyone! Check out our latest coaching tips!”

More Personal Email

“Hey [Name], stumbled upon something amazing I wanted to share with you.”

Do you see the difference?

Strategy Number 5: Send Regular Emails At Least Once Per Week

Ever heard of Josh Spector? He’s the brains behind the successful newsletter “For The Interested.”

Josh had some great advice about email frequency.

He recommended that you only email daily if the things you’re trying to sell require a deep relationship with your reader.

Because emailing daily is the best way to build relationships with your subscribers, it often results in more unsubscribes.

And I can’t think of any product or service that requires a deeper relationship than coaching.

So yes, some people might unsubscribe because they don’t like to receive daily emails from you.

But for those who enjoy receiving your daily emails, you are building that important deeper relationship that is required to coach clients.

The key is to email often but not send out boring emails. You never wanna waste your reader’s time.

I recommend sending several emails per week but if you don’t have enough interesting things to say yet, then start with at least 1 email per week.

IMPORTANT BONUS TIP

Remove subscribers who don’t read your emails.

When people don’t open your emails, it hurts their deliverability rate, which can cause emails to land in the spam folder.

In other words, remove inactive subscribers to keep the overall open rate high, which helps your emails arrive in everyone’s inboxes.

But before you hit that remove button, send them a warning email that tells them they will be removed if they don’t react.

Here’s a quick template you could use:

Subject: “Your email will be removed”

Hi [Name],

I hope this message finds you well. Quick check-in—I’ve noticed you haven’t opened any of my emails in the last 90 days. 🤔

Do you still want to stay in the loop?

Reply with a “Yes” to keep receiving updates.

If I don’t hear back in 7 days, your email will be automatically removed.

Thanks!

[Your Name]

But before you can start sending out emails, you need an email list to begin with.

The best way to build an email list is to give away something for free, which is what we call a lead magnet.

  1. I like these tips Morris; especially the note about sending 1-to-1 messages which adds an intimate touch to your email. People love the personal touch and addressing subscribers individually definitely adds that touch, making folks feel special, cared for. Making people feel cared for only turns your email marketing strategy from a business-building tactic into something more powerful, palpable and loving, really.

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, Ryan! I’m thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the tips, especially the emphasis on sending 1-to-1 messages. Creating that personal connection is indeed a game-changer in email marketing.

I like reading your emails from ‘Blogging From Paradise’, I think you do a fantastic job in personal tone and variety. I like that you switch it up between blog update notifications and personal messages. That should be another tip on the list: Variety!
