Success Story: Client Outreach Strategy From This Young Copywriter

If you are a coach, consultant, or freelancer, then this story will reveal one of the most consistent ways to get clients online. I have recently worked with a young copywriter from France and here is his story of success.

  • He landed his first client after just 2 weeks, without paying for any ads and working alone
  • His story landed by taking an online course to learn Copywriting
  • He was broke at that moment which meant the money he invested into that online course needed to pay off

What Was Antoine’s Problem When He Asked Me For Help?

Antoine was lost.

He already knew that he had to do something. He had to develop his skills but didn’t have any idea how to start and he was just trying to find a solution.

Antoine was already following me on social media and would send me questions sometimes.

After he took the online course, there was one important night when he and I had a call, and I told him this:

“You have spent enough time learning about marketing and copywriting, it is time to take action.”

But as you also know, taking action is easier said than done.

Beginner Mindset

Antoine wasn’t really sure that he could start reaching out to potential clients effectively. He didn’t believe me when I said that he could actually do it.

But he trusted me and since he had nowhere else to go, he just did what I said.

According to him, there are two possible scenarios that can happen:

  1. The worst thing is he won’t find any clients at all.
  2. The best thing is he’ll find clients, make them happy with his results, and make money.

Antoine promised me that he will stop watching tutorials, and start doing.

Now what does that even mean in actual day-to-day tasks?

And that’s where I helped him get clear.

  1. Antoine wanted to work as a copywriter who writes newsletter emails for businesses.
  2. So he needed to find businesses that either didn’t have a newsletter or had an inactive newsletter.
  3. And then he needed to reach out to them and send them a message offering his help.
  4. After doing this consistently for 2 weeks, putting all his effort and focus into this one single task, Antoine finally landed his first client!

Here’s how he describes it in his own words:

I think it’s honestly not that hard to find clients, to land. Once you got a niche and you start looking for companies, small companies, and businesses that could need your help in a variety of domains, if you really put the effort in the outreach and you really show up as a human and you want to help them, they’ll notice it. Like don’t chase the money. Chase the results and with results comes money.

Instead of investing all their time into looking for clients, there are so many reasons why people are afraid:

  1. To take action and keep taking courses
  2. Or watching tutorials

Antoine also raised several of these excuses when he and I had our first call.

His main objection was this: I don’t even know my offer yet.

I hear this excuse every single day.

Listen, if you are a coach, a consultant, or selling another kind of service, then first and foremost you have to learn to book calls.

You don’t need to know your offer to book calls.

You just need to reach out to people who might need help and ask them a question. It’s exactly as simple as this.

As you can see, his message is:

  1. Straightforward
  2. Simple language
  3. Nothing special
  4. Not salesy

When they respond to you and you have a conversation with them, you have one single objective: To understand what the other person wants and needs.

Your objective is to be the ONE person in their life who, probably for the first time ever truly cares about what they want, whether you have this kind of conversation in:

  1. Emails
  2. DMs on your social media account
  3. On an actual phone or video call

Again, you don’t need to know your offer to do this.

As a matter of fact, you will be a better listener if you just forget about your offer during those conversations.

How Did Antoine Find And Contact Potential Clients?

Antoine said that he got his client through this journey:

  1. He found a couple of niches, about 5 niches that caught his interest.
  2. He focused on ONE niche, one specific field of the market that he was interested in and that could bring his values to.
  3. He found many companies and businesses in that specific niche
  4. He contacted them by DMs on Instagram and X, you can also do it on Facebook and other social media platforms
  5. Some didn’t answer and didn’t even open his messages
  6. At some point, there was a company that just opened his message and loved how he approached.
  7. The company answered and they started working together.

It’s really these 3 steps:

  1. Reach out to potential clients
  2. Begin a conversation
  3. Listen closely to learn what they want

These 3 steps can lead to getting clients quickly, exactly as Antoine did.

You will never stop struggling and in many cases, burn out with nothing to show for it, if you don’t take action because you are still overthinking about your:

  1. Niche
  2. Your avatar
  3. Your offer
  4. So on

Antoine is a rare example of someone who was able to focus on the only thing that matters: booking calls and listening to the other person.

Not to sell, not to pitch, but to listen to understand.

Sales And Marketing Lessons

Antoine shared some of the Sales and marketing lessons he learned after getting his first client:

  1. You must not sell.
  2. Instead of money, focus on clients and results. When you focus on results, you need to learn to listen to your clients and do what they need. Sometimes, the client is not going to need exactly what you were selling at the beginning but you are still able to pull off results.
  3. Just listen to your clients and once the client answers and tells you exactly what he needs, cater to his needs, and eventually, you will make results and the client will be happy.
  4. Since the client will be happy, the client will be needing you more. 

Here are the 5 key takeaways from Antoine’s success story:

  1. Feeling lost and not knowing where to start is normal.
  2. You overcome this situation by taking action even if you are scared or doubtful. If you don’t know how to take action, get help like Antoine asked me for help.
  3. If you really put the effort into your outreach, it can go faster than you think.
  4. Find your ideal clients on social media, like Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and send them a DM. You can also look up their website and send them an email.
  5. Your prospect doesn’t care about your package, they only care about their results. Learn to listen and focus on the results that they want.
