10 Practical No Bullsh*t Online Marketing Tips For Getting Clients Online

In 2017, I decided to get clients online.

When I started online marketing, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would I make money? Would I embarrass myself in front of friends and family?

Only time would tell of course.

But fast forward to today, I can confidently say that this absolutely works

And in here’s blog, I will be sharing some tricks that can get you clients online successfully.

10 Tips for Successfully Getting Clients with Online Marketing

Tip #1: Pick One Social Media Platform

Ironically, I did this really well when I started out but when I was making more money, I refused to follow this rule again which was pretty stupid.

To run a 6-figure business, you only need to figure out one platform.

Whether that’s YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, it doesn’t matter.

Just pick one and get really serious about it.

For a starter, you can follow these steps:

  1. Create a daily routine between 30min and 1 hour.
  2. Post every day.
  3. Write comments on other people’s posts every day.
  4. Study the metrics to see what works for YOU and YOUR content.

Tip #2: Help people get one specific outcome

I’m choosing my words very carefully here because most people just call this their niche.

But after having worked with many clients, I see most people get entirely paralyzed by defining their niche.

Every time I built an email list, sold a book, sold a course, or signed up a client… it wasn’t because of my niche.

It was because of a specific outcome that the other person was interested in.

Here is an example:

Most health coaches define their niche like this:

“Women over 30 years old, they have 2 kids, they love watching ‘Selling Sunset’ on Netflix and they drink white wine.”

What I’ve found works much better is when I focus on a specific result.

For example:

“How to lose belly fat to fit into your favorite jeans?”

And then all your content and your entire mission for being online always refers back to that one outcome.

Where you say:

“Let’s lose the belly fat and let’s get you into your favorite jeans.”

And then in your content and to achieve exactly that outcome, start sharing:

  • Some tips
  • Stories
  • Examples

I know that niching down can be a confusing step. So if you have questions, post them in the comments now so that I can reply.

Tip #3: Share your values and interests

Why do celebrities make public donations? Why do celebrities show themselves as a caring husband, father, wife, mother?

It is to convey their values to their audience.

Before a person hires you, they first have to like you and trust you. That’s why it is important to also share your values and interests.

You will have no trouble getting clients if:

  1. Your audience thinks that you are an incredible person; and
  2. You solve a problem that they want to get rid of

So get clear on your values and which of these values you want to share publicly. In my case, I stand for freedom and autonomy.

I had a high-paying career in the financial industry and I walked away from that because I was sacrificing my autonomy and too much of my freedom and I didn’t want to live like that.

And when I build my business, it’s to express my freedom and autonomy so that I can attract people who feel the same way.

You can do the same thing in all of your content by sharing stories about yourself and just overall showing a personal side.

Tip #4: Consistency is Quality

When it comes to creating content for social media, often the word ‘value’ is thrown around.

It is said that you have to provide value to build an audience.

What I’ve learned is that what’s considered valuable rarely depends on WHAT is posted, but much more on WHO posted it.

A big, established account can post the same message as a small, new account. But when the big account posts it, it is considered valuable. When the small account posts it, it appears less valuable.

It’s just how these platforms work. Except for certain types of YouTube videos, I would say, but that’s a completely different topic.

So what I’ve learned is that consistency IS quality.

If you want to be considered valuable:

  • You have to post every day
  • Be active every day for at least 6 months

Some people make it happen after 3 months, others it takes up to 1 year.

So next time you hear someone say ‘value, value, value’, translate that to ‘consistent, consistent, consistent’.

Tip #5: Build an email list

There isn’t much to say about tip number 5.

It’s really straightforward: Give something away for free, and in return ask for their email address, and build your list.

If you want my recommendation, sign up with Aweber.

I love their email software because it’s super easy to use and they make an amazing job delivering emails into the inbox and NOT into the spam folder.

So what you do is:

  1. Create your own website.
  2. Make a simple landing page that describes what you’re giving away for free.
  3. Add the opt-in box from Aweber.
  4. And start building your list.

And by the way, if the thing you’re giving away for free isn’t making people sign up, try something else. It’s really that simple.

For example, I’m giving away a FREE guide called ‘How To Get Your First Client Online’; this month it’s converting at around 20%. You can download that by clicking this link.

Tip #6: Send 2 emails per week

Now that you are building an email list, you also need to communicate with your list.

I was always going back and forth on how many emails to send because it can depend on various factors.

But if you ask me for general advice, I’ll say send 2 emails per week.

If you think 2 emails per week is too much, then you’re the kind of person that should be sending 3 emails per week.

No jokes aside.

Sending two emails per week is not too much at all. And if someone thinks that’s too much, let them unsubscribe. They weren’t your audience.

I also recommend writing short emails. Don’t write these long, bloated newsletter-style emails.

Try following these tips when sending emails to your list:

  • Write emails that are short and snappy,
  • Give away a quick tip,
  • Share some helpful examples

In that way, your email list will see you as a valuable addition to their inbox.

Tip #7: Write a book

You might think writing a book is something you can do later down the road.

Write a book as soon as you can.

Here are some steps you can consider when writing your book:

  1. Block out 15 minutes per day, or even just half an hour on the weekend.
  2. Start writing your book.
  3. Once your book is written, tell the whole world about it, if you can.

They don’t necessarily have to buy your book but they have to know you’re an author.

Being an author really helps with your credibility and also with your status. Plus, you can give away free copies to people who hire you.

So if you don’t have a book yet, start writing it.

And if you have a book already, keep promoting it and mentioning it anywhere you can. That’s how you get more clients.

Tip #8: Do a live workshop

If you’ve followed all the tips up until now, you should be crushing it online.

Your social media account is growing, your email list is growing, and people are reaching out to you.

But how do you sell?

The answer is: You sell in a workshop!

You create a workshop that you do on a live stream or on Zoom, and of course, the workshop is on a specific topic where you teach something.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you sell in your workshop:

  1. At the beginning of the workshop, you quickly tell people what you do as a coach, consultant, or freelancer.
  2. Then at the end of the workshop, you say it again.
  3. Tell people to book a call with you if they need your help.

Of course, there are many ways to optimize your workshop and improve your pitch.

And if you really don’t know how to create a workshop or how to pitch your services, then the easiest thing you can do is go to my website and book a call with me on my calendar.

But if you know how to do the workshop, you can follow these steps:

  1. Invite your email list, all your followers, and everyone who’s ever reached out to you.
  2. Make it a big event.
  3. Then just follow the structure I’ve just outlined earlier.
  4. After that, you can do a workshop every month or every couple of months.

Tip #9: Sell high-ticket

This was a big mistake that I’ve done because I started with low-ticket and worked myself up to high-ticket.

Don’t do that, because it’s going to take you very long to do this full-time.

Start by selling a solution to a problem that your clients are willing to pay good money for.

It’s fine if you charge your first few clients less to build up your portfolio, testimonials, and case studies.

But the goal is that you’re building up to a high-ticket price point of $500, $1,000, and more.

Once you have your business up and running selling high-ticket, that’s when you can look into creating courses, memberships, and other low-ticket offers.

Tip #10: Talk to people in the DMs everyday

I know that this tip is one that VERY few people will implement. And that’s also why very few people sign up for clients online.

But believe it or not, I was the same.

When I started online marketing, I wanted everything to be automated. That was my dream.

I even turned off all my DMs, it was impossible for anyone to reach out to me.

Looking back, that was very stupid and very stubborn.

Even back then, more successful online marketers, they always told me:

“The success is in the DMs.”

And I thought to myself:

“Nah, I’m not gonna waste all that time chatting with people.”

But here is the truth:

Every DM is either your next client or knows someone who could be your next client.

So what I recommend is that:

  1. Every day, you block out 15 minutes to either answer your DMs, or
  2. Block out 15 minutes to reach out to other people by sending them a message.

In my free guide, I explain in great detail how to write good DMs that don’t offend anybody and that lead to clients.

It was exactly how I got my first few clients online.
